40 Years of Location Intelligence

The Nexiga Building Data Story

Nexiga has been providing everything to do with Building for four decades. In the 1980s, Nexiga - or its predecessor company - was the first and only company in the newly emerging geomarketing scene to record and categorize the residential environments in urban and rural areas by personally visiting the old Federal Republic of Germany. This was extremely time-consuming, but it created the basis for the world of data and analysis under the brand name LOCAL® at the time. The buildings were categorized according to settlement form, building type and building age. Additional information, including social status, was recorded and residential environment typologies were developed. A pioneering achievement.

Once upon a time there was a Building...

From the 1990s onwards, these inspections were regularly repeated - then, of course, for the reunified Germany. The results still form the basis of the Nexiga house database today. Nine characteristics form the basis: building age, construction method, garden type and size, building type, location in the town, residential area, street type, design and state of maintenance.

As innovative as the inspections were back then, they would no longer be up to date today. Today, a wide range of collaborations, official and non-official data sources and automated internet searches help to update and expand the building database. It is important to record new buildings and postal and administrative changes as well as to update and expand the data portfolio.

By licensing and evaluating official cadastral data, extensive detailed information on the buildings was entered into the Nexiga database. This includes the floor area, building height, roof area and building volume. The number of floors and the living space were derived from this.

The orientation of the roofs is an important feature, for example, with regard to the suitability of the buildings for solar installations. Other infrastructure features of the buildings were also recorded across the board, in particular broadband availability.

Examples of use and benefits

Energy efficiency

In view of climate change and the current explosion in energy prices, information on heating requirements in kWh, heating type and heating output as well as electricity requirements is of enormous importance.

Logistics

For questions about improving parcel delivery, the exact addresses of garages and the location of the house are a relevant feature for planning.

Marketing & Targeting

Combined information on building use such as commercial/private or ownership/rental provides a variety of approaches for targeted geographic marketing.

E-Mobility

When planning the expansion of electromobility, Nexiga provides exact addresses for garages.

Our solutions do not describe people, but only geographical coordinates. Nexiga building data does not allow any conclusions to be drawn about personal data. Strict data protection also and especially applies to the information in the "Building" category. In compliance with data protection regulations, we use the finest analysis grids to summarize several households in a non-personalized and therefore anonymous manner. The people behind this are and remain unknown to us and the users of our data. As you can see, Nexiga is still at the cutting edge even after 40 years. Nexiga stands for 40 years of innovation in geomarketing and location intelligence.
